Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Student Relief Fund

COVID-19 has created unprecedented changes and difficulties for many. The need for relief funds throughout April and the start of May was evident. Our Student Awards and Financial Aid Office supported more than 1,100 students with more than $220,000 disbursed to assist with urgent needs such as food security.

Although the Federal Government has proposed new funding for students, we know that it still won’t be enough for our students due to limited summer and part-time jobs. Your gift can support the needs of our students giving them the confidence that their community is here for them.

To help, Ontario Tech created a $1 Million Matching Fund for all donations to the Student Relief Fund, regardless of amount. We are grateful to the Student Union and Societies who recently donated to support their fellow students in this unprecedented time of need. We are also grateful to the donors listed below and those who wish to remain anonymous for their gifts.

If you are in a position to do so, please consider supporting this fund. Thank you for thinking of our students.
