Chancellor Frazer and President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Steven Murphy join other participants running in the 2024 Chancellor's Challenge 5 KM Run/Walk event.

Ontario Tech University is proud to announce the success of the fourth annual Chancellor’s Challenge, which raised an impressive $125,000 and engaged over 400 participants in a 5K fundraising event. This year’s efforts will directly support student success initiatives and educational advancements, reinforcing the university's commitment to empowering students.

Held on the final day of summer at Polonsky Commons, the event attracted a record-breaking mix of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members. Participants ran, walked, and rolled through a scenic route that showcased the university’s north Oshawa campus. The day also featured interactive activities, live music, and tours of the ACE Core Research Facility, making it a memorable celebration for all.

President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Steven Murphy expressed gratitude for the Challenge’s overwhelming support, emphasizing the collective effort of the university community in driving student success.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the inaugural Chancellor’s Circle Award to renowned tech leader John Ruffolo, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Canada's tech economy. Ruffolo, celebrated for his visionary leadership and commitment to Canadian startups, embodies Ontario Tech’s values of innovation and ethical responsibility. The award honours individuals who make impactful contributions to society and reflect the university's mission to promote leadership and excellence.

With plans already underway for the 2025 Challenge, the university anticipates even greater participation and an even bigger impact on the lives of its students.
