Chancellor's Challenge
When Mitch Frazer became Ontario Tech’s fourth Chancellor on May 1, 2020, he brought with him a deep commitment to education and student success. To turn that passion into action, he launched the Chancellor’s Challenge—an annual initiative that raises critical funds to support students and strengthen the university’s mission.
The inaugural 2021 Chancellor's Challenge was a remarkable success. Chancellor Mitch Frazer’s challenge was to help Ontario Tech students by running or walking 7.2 kilometres—which is the distance between the north and south locations of Ontario Tech—every day for four weeks, regardless of the weather. In all, he ran or walked more than 380 kilometres. Many others in the campus community followed the Chancellor’s lead and joined the Challenge in their own way by running or walking, and asking family, friends and colleagues to participate with a gift to the fundraising campaign.
Since then, the event has grown into a signature campus tradition. Over its five-year history, the Chancellor’s Challenge has raised more than $700,000 to advance the university’s Tech with a Conscience campaign. The event continues to unite the community creating an environment that prioritizes student success and supports innovation that uplifts humanity and safeguards our planet.
"Our students are innovators and change-makers who will improve our lives and environment in the future. We have to make sure Ontario Tech students have the support they need so they can succeed. I am thrilled about the widespread support for the annual Chancellor’s Challenge. Our university and our community are making a vital difference in the lives of young people, one step at a time."
