Ontario Tech student-athletes balance intense training with academic success, building the resilience and leadership that carry into life beyond sport. Powered by a unique partnership with the Faculty of Health Sciences, Ridgebacks benefit from leading-edge sport science, injury care, performance analytics and mental skills support that helps athletes stay healthy, compete at their best and excel off the field.
As a STEM university, Ontario Tech leverages the intersection of science, technology and sport through close collaboration with the Faculty of Health Sciences, delivering research-informed best practices and a high-performance model that includes sports therapy, strength and conditioning, and mental performance services. Student-athletes receive advanced injury care and benefit from leading technologies that track sleep, well-being, fitness, exertion and recovery, supporting both performance and sports science research, including a machine learning performance evaluation tool developed for U SPORTS. With growing year-over-year athlete engagement, Ontario Tech is setting a new standard for comprehensive support that helps student-athletes excel on the field and thrive off it.

- Build the Varsity Success Fund to deepen holistic supports that enhance student-athlete well-being, engagement and performance.
- Advance sport science research with the Faculty of Health Sciences in areas like nutrition, recovery, mental performance coaching, and strength and conditioning.
- Expand internships, research practicums and curriculum development that build sport science expertise and career-ready skills.
- Equip teams and researchers with leading performance technologies and analytics, including tools like heart rate monitoring and tracking data to inform training.
- Enable national and international competition opportunities that build experience, raise performance standards and help attract high-calibre student-athletes to Ontario Tech.

Ontario Tech is raising the bar for high-performance athletics with a Ridgebacks model built on championship ambition, safe sport and holistic student-athlete support, while expanding recreation and wellness for the entire campus community.
Ontario Tech is differentiating its athletics program through a high-performance approach that builds commitment, support and competitive success, while prioritizing inclusive, rights-based safe sport. Student-athletes are earning new opportunities, including professional pathways like Ridgebacks soccer standout Trivine Esprit, now playing for York United in the Canadian Premier League. Investments in full-time coaches and support staff are driving stronger results and attracting top recruits and transfers. Strong partnerships with OUA and U SPORTS also position the institution to host major events, including its first U SPORTS men’s soccer national championship in November 2024. Beyond varsity sport, expanded recreation, adaptive programming and wellness services aim to elevate fitness and sport participation across the entire campus community.
