Emily Aprile
Networking and IT Security Alum and Women for STEM Award Recipient, Class of 2024
Emily’s love for STEM is long-lasting. “I think I’ve always been interested in STEM. Science was my favorite subject, and I fell in love with programming in high school. I was drawn to the endless possibilities and exploration of technology and knew I wanted a future career in tech. I attended a university Women in Tech event in grade 9, where I got to tackle tech challenges and see the potential in STEM education. That event opened my eyes to tech programs and introduced me to the other young women who, like me, were paving the way.”
As Emily continued her studies, she found that being part of the Women for STEM program had a significant impact on her educational journey. “Being part of Women for STEM gave me confidence in my academics and a sense of support that pushed me to pursue my passions. Learning from women leaders in the program inspired me to lead a team of women myself and serve as President of the Women in Technology group. This network was essential to my experience.”
Emily was inspired by her experiences in the program and the community around her. “Women for STEM showed me the value of a strong community and provided me with the tools and network to create my own. I now feel more supported in my future and confident in my growth because I know I have an amazing network to guide and mentor me along the way. This experience taught me how important it is to have a network and how to use it to find more opportunities.”
As she now embarks on her career, Emily is eager to explore her interests and continue to grow. “I’m excited about the freedom and possibilities in my future career. I can’t wait to apply my skills to real-world challenges and learn more about the areas of tech that excite me. I’m committed to continuous learning and look forward to working on projects that matter.”
Emily still feels the impact of Women for STEM. “You don’t have to strive for success alone. Look to the women around you for support and the women ahead of you for inspiration and guidance”. “. If you're afraid to do something, just do it scared - courage comes after action, not before.”
