Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

The Becky Dinwoodie Memorial Fund

Becky Dinwoodie, University Secretary and Judicial Officer, Ontario Tech University

Becky Dinwoodie

Becky was a shining light and a beacon of hope and optimism even in the toughest times. She was passionate about her university and serving her community. She worked hard and she enjoyed getting out with friends for a round of golf, drinks or a casual conversation. She always had a smile and a kind word to share.

In her role, Becky worked closely with Ontario Tech’s Board of Governors and Academic Council, providing guidance and support with the governing process of the university. Becky brought a smile and a laugh to each and every meeting, and her personality radiated warmth at every turn. She will be dearly missed by our university community, the university sector, the Durham Region and by everyone who crossed her path.

The Becky Dinwoodie Memorial Fund will provide financial support to Ontario Tech University students as they complete their studies. Thank you for considering a donation to Becky’s Fund and creating a lasting legacy in her name.

Ontario Tech University employees can also make a gift through payroll donations.
