OCNI Supports Synergy
Bill Walker, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries (OCNI) is a big believer in working collaboratively wherever possible.
He notes the nuclear industry is experiencing a renaissance in the face of rapid climate change, and is more focused than ever
on working with universities to ensure there is skilled future talent to fill the growing number of nuclear jobs anticipated.
“I think we always have to be looking at the feeder system and at planting seeds to maximize the educational opportunities and engagement for the next generation,” Bill says.
“We want to develop a rapport and look toward the future together. How can we work with government, for instance, to find ways to meet the demand for personnel?” OCNI has partnered with Ontario Tech University since 2006. Most recently, OCNI renewed its commitment to fund the OCNI-Martyn Wash Memorial Scholarship, which provides two annual awards for second-, third- or fourth-year full-time undergraduate students in the Ontario Tech Nuclear Engineering program.
“We are proud to honour Martyn Wash, the first leader of our organization, and the ability to have an impact on a personal level is a big drawing card,” Bill says.
