Buzz Melanson Memorial Golf Scholarship
Earl (Buzz) Melanson was passionate about two things – how important it is for young people to receive a post-secondary education, and golf. To celebrate Buzz’s passions, his family have established a scholarship in his name at Ontario Tech University.
Student-athletes make numerous sacrifices over the course of a season in order to compete at the level necessary for intercollegiate athletics. They also are tremendously dedicated to their academics in order to remain eligible for competition. As a result, most student-athletes suffer the financial strain, not being able to carry a part-time job during the season.
The Buzz Melanson Memorial Golf Scholarship will be awarded annually to the Ontario Tech varsity golf student-athlete with the highest G.P.A. and will assist in helping them balance their studies, their sport and enhancing their student-athlete experience.
Buzz was an exceptional man – kind, loving and generous – and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family is pleased to know that his legacy, and his love of golf, will live on through the kindness of his wonderful friends supporting this important scholarship.
Our commitment is to ensure a sustainable, transparent, and efficient philanthropic program. To help achieve this, 5% of donations to expendable funds, with the exception of student financial support, are used to partially offset the costs of receipting, administering, tracking and distributing funds.
