Robert PrichardInspiration

A world that's healthy and sustainable: this is what Robert Prichard wants. And one of the ways he's helping to make this happen is through an endowment.

Our university is fortunate to have donors like Robert who are as passionate as our students. A dedicated, lifelong environmentalist, during the university's early days he established an endowment with UOIT – an investment that will last forever. By gifting a life insurance policy, he funded an award to financially assist Environmental Toxicology and Bioscience students. This will nurture their work in preserving and enhancing the health of our planet.

For many years, Robert has enjoyed travelling the world and exploring history, especially military history. Now retired, he is a resident of Bowmanville, Ontario – at least for part of the year. During the winter months he lives in South Padre Island, Texas near the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world. Here he indulges his love of nature and assists with the annual bird counts on the nature preserve.

He believes what he does in life matters. He wants to make a difference, not only while he is here, but also long into the future. Since the university opened in 2003, he has been a member of UOIT's valued Circle of Knowledge, whose members provide planned gifts. He was drawn to being a pioneer in a new venture. "From the outset I knew I wanted to part of this important institution," he says.

Through his endowment to the university, he has created an enduring legacy of who he is and what he believes in. Our students, our university and our world will be stronger because of his foresight.

"If you have a passion, by financially encouraging students to carry it on, you can ensure others will continue supporting it indefinitely."
