Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Ontario Power Generation

Ontario Power GenerationBehind each UOIT student stands a community committed to their success.

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) forms a critical part of that community. For more than 10 years, OPG has invested in our students and our university through a partnership agreement, providing financial support for students, equipment and capital projects.

Their support empowers us to deliver Canada’s only undergraduate program in nuclear engineering. Their contributions enabled us to secure additional funds from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). creating the OPG-NSERC Design Chair and a nuclear engineer in residence.

Our university, for its part, provides specialized education and training for workers and managers in the nuclear sector, along with graduating a new generation of engineers and energy specialists to support nuclear operations and projects.

Together we prepare graduates who apply the critical thinking and innovative research techniques demanded by leading employers. These graduates will be our future leaders in the nuclear industry.

Our collaboration continues to bring international attention and added value to Durham Region and to Ontario. We look forward to another decade of energizing our economy and building a brighter future for all.

"From providing students with financial support through various awards and investing in state-of-the-art facilities, to providing real-life industry experience for undergraduate students, OPG has supported and fostered the development of our graduates and instilled them with a sense of pride in the nuclear industry.”
