Meeting Canada’s Growing Nuclear Workforce Demand
Canada’s nuclear sector is entering a period of rapid growth, driving demand for highly skilled, job-ready talent across engineering, cybersecurity, business and skilled trades. Building a sustainable workforce pipeline requires earlier engagement, broader access and stronger alignment between education and industry.
A Talent Pipeline Built for Industry
Ontario Tech University delivers an integrated approach to workforce development—engaging students early, supporting their success and preparing them with the applied skills needed in the nuclear sector.
Talent Pipeline Development
Ontario Tech’s Engineering Outreach program (est. 2014) engages more than 42,000 K–12 students annually across Durham Region through hands-on STEM experiences.
With donor support, we can:
- Expand programs to reach more communities and students
- Introduce nuclear-focused STEM programming earlier in the student journey
- Increase hands-on learning opportunities that spark sustained interest in STEM pathways
Donor impact:
More students will enter post-secondary pathways prepared and motivated to pursue nuclear-related careers, strengthening the long-term sustainability of the talent pipeline.

Student Financial Support
Scholarships and bursaries are one of the most direct ways to secure future talent. They reduce financial pressure and allow students to focus on developing the skills needed across the nuclear workforce—from engineering to business, cybersecurity and beyond. With 63% of Ontario Tech students being first‑generation and student aid expected to decline in 2026, targeted support is increasingly critical.
With donor support to the Fueling the Future of Nuclear Talent volunteer-led initiative, we can:
- Increase the number and value of scholarships and bursaries for students
- Remove financial barriers that limit access, persistence and completion
- Support high-potential, diverse students through to graduation
Donor impact:
More students complete their education and transition into critical roles across the nuclear workforce.
